Text Neck: A Modern Day Neck Issue
< 1 Min Read
Fact Checked
Everyone has a smartphone, a tablet, or a computer. We are a part of a substantively different world when compared to our parents and grandparents. Technology has been a powerful influence on all of us with the internet, wireless connectivity, touch pads, and much more. Our lifestyle depends on such technology, hence the strain of looking down at the smartphone for too long. Leaning forward puts pressure on your neck and spine. This is called the text-neck syndrome.
Some common symptoms of text-neck
- Neck pain
- Strain
- Pinched nerve
- A chronic headache
- Dizziness
Your head’s weight is magnified
When you bend your neck forward, your head tilts away from the center of gravity which imposes force on your neck. The weight of your head is a key factor here. Your neck can support its weight when it is in a neutral position. When you bend down, your head puts more force on your neck resulting in minor to major complications.
- Prevent text-neck
- Elevate your phone
- Take break from phone often
- Maintain a straight posture
- Stretch often
- Exercise regularly
