Dermatophytosis is an infection of the hair, skin, and nails that is caused by a dermatophyte.

Dermatophytic infection is very common. More than 10 million cases of ringworm are reported in India every year.

Ringworm is generally spread by skin-to-skin contact or by touching an infected animal or object hence it is highly contagious. The treatment is anti-fungal medication.

Symptoms:

Diagnosed by a medical professional
Ringworm is typically crusty and may be red and itchy. Ringworm of the scalp is collective in kids, where it may cause bald patches.
People may experience:
Skin: darkening of the skin, fissures, peeling, red rashes, or crusty patches
Also common: hair loss or itchy scalp
A doctor should be consulted immediately if these symptoms start to appear. If severe symptoms start to appear, medical help should be availed right away.

Treatment generally includes anti-fungal medication

Anti-fungal to prevent the growth of fungi.
Self-Care:

Wearing loose-fitting cotton or synthetic clothing which wick moisture away from skin surface is advisable. Losing weight is also advisable for the patients.

Preventative:

The patient shouldnt share their clothes or towels. Undergarments, socks, caps should also be regularly washed and kept in the sun and ironed.
