Perioral dermatitis is an inflammation around the mouth. It’s a common inflammatory skin rash.
The condition is most commonly seen in young women (90% of cases), but it can affect men as well. [1]

- Occurs after prolonged use of topical steroid creams and nasal sprays containing corticosteroids

Perioral dermatitis is a type of skin condition that can last up to weeks and even months. A common skin problem, but people respond well to proper medication. It’s a non-contagious facial rash appearing around the mouth. Occasionally, the rash may shift to areas around the eyes, nose, or genitals.
Symptoms:
Self-diagnosable:
Often, the rashes resemble acne. They appears around the mouth and sometimes in the folds around the nose. Rashes may contain pus or fluids.
People may experience:
Redness, burning, and itching.
Treatment:
Self-care: Stop using topical steroid creams or nasal sprays containing steroids. Use mild soaps. Discontinue using heavy skin creams and fluoridated toothpaste.
Medications: Topical antibiotic medications and immunosuppressive creams are prescribed together with topical acne medications and oral antibiotics.
