Schamberthe triple P disease

About

Rustic brown skin discoloration found in people of all ages, usually affecting the legs.

This is a rare condition and usually affects of men, irrespective of the age [1,4].

- Visual examination
- Can be readily diagnosed and treated by an expert dermatologist, but cannot be cured
- Biopsy is required
- No known definitive cause, usually related to diabetes, heart disease, and CKD
- No known definitive treatment

Schamberg's disease, or purpura pigmentosa progressiva, is caused by leaky blood vessels near the surface of the skin, capillaries, which allow red blood cells to slip through into the skin which then falls apart and release their iron, which is released from hemoglobin. The iron causes a rust color and this accounts for the orange tint of the rash that can be seen on the skin.

Symptoms

Skin lesions, most frequent on lower limbs. No other characteristic symptoms; however, slight itching may be there.

Treatment

Self-care:
Wearing support hosiery can give relief. Diet rich in Vitamin C should be followed.

Medication
Prescribed steroid creams can be helpful in controlling itching. Muscle pain relievers may be prescribed in serious cases. This takes several months and does not always work.
