Tinea Capitis Scalp
What is Tinea capitis or Ringworm?
About
Ringworm or Tinea capitis is a fungal infection of the scalp. Some ringworm of the scalp can cause inflammation on the site of the infection which can cause scarring or permanent hair loss.
Tinea capitis is widespread in some urban areas, particularly in children of Afro-Caribbean extraction, in North America, Central America, and South America. [1]

Fungi called dermatophytes causes ringworm of the scalp. Fungi are the organisms which thrive upon dead tissues such as fingernails, hair, and outer layers of skin. Poor hygiene increases the spread of ringworm. It can easily spread from people to people. If you use a comb or other objects of the infected person, then the chances of getting ringworm are high. House pets can spread ringworm too.
Symptoms:
- Itchy bald patches on the scalp
- Scaly red spots which can increase
- Brittle hair
- Painful scalp
- Low-grade fever
- Swollen lymph nodes
- In severe cases, the patient can develop kerion (crusty swellings).
Treatment
