A peptic ulcer is a condition of having a sore (ulcer) in the lining of the oesophagus, stomach or small intestine.

Long-time overuse of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like Aspirin is one of the most common causes of peptic ulcers.

Symptoms

People may experience:
- Burning abdominal pain
- Nausea and feeling faint
- Bloody or dark stools
- Unexplained weight loss
- Indigestion
- Vomiting

Treatments

Your doctor will run tests and recommend a treatment plan, which usually includes taking medication daily for a couple weeks.

Self-care:
- Avoid alcohol
- Proper rest
- Refrain from taking pain relievers

Medications:
- Antibiotics
- Acid blockers like Zantac or Pepcid
