A fever is a reaction of the body to an infection due to a virus or bacteria. Occasionally, cancer or other immune diseases can cause fever wherein the fever lasts for a week or 2. The temperature itself is not harmful in most cases. It actually helps the body fight infections. Sometimes a fever can be an early sign of a serious infection.

Symptoms:

If the fever lasts for a long time, a medical professional should be consulted.
People may experience:
A severe headache, pain is the ears, throat, neck, face, joints or abdomen, recurrent vomiting or diarrhea, appearance of a new rash, body temperature of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher.

Diagnosis:

• Lab tests will be done
• If severe symptoms appear, medical help should be sought immediately.

Treatment:

• Self Care
• Rest for 2-3 days
• Avoid smoking
• Light and balanced diet
• Increased fluid intake to avoid dehydration

Medications
Antibiotics can be prescribed for infections.
