APS, also known as antiphospholipid syndrome, is an autoimmune disorder in which the immune system of a person’s body accidentally attacks the proteins present in the blood.

A person is diagnosed with APS if he/she experiences one or more episodes of thrombosis or pregnancy loss. [1]

Ages affected - Between 20 - 30 - Often; between 30 - 40 - more often; 40 and above - less.

Symptoms

Symptoms of APS may include a severe pain in the chest area and the inability to breathe properly.

People may experience the following:
Pain areas – Chest pain
Respiratory - Blood clots along with shortness of breath
Skin issues – Discoloration of the skin

Treatment

Self Care: For chest pain or supported breathing, lying on the back and taking controlled breathes can be helpful.
Medications: For other areas of pain, anti-inflammatory drugs are the best option.
