Celiac Disease is an autoimmune disorder. It occurs in genetically predisposed people. If there is ingestion of gluten (a protein found in wheat, barley and rye) then it can lead to damage of the small intestine.

Celiac Disease is hereditary. It has a high chance of running into families. People who have a first degree relative with Celiac Disease have 1 out of 10 risk of developing it.

Symptoms

Symptoms include
- Diarrhoea
- Bloating
- Fatigue
- Low Blood Count (Anaemia)
- Osteoporosis

People may also experience pain in abdomen or joints, nausea, vomiting, fat in stool, heat burn, bone loss, delayed puberty growth, cramping, lactose intolerance, skin rash.

Treatment

Selfcare: Primary selfcare can be a strict gluten-free diet which will help manage symptoms and ease intestinal healing. That is a diet which will not contain wheat, rye and barley.
Medication: Doctors may prescribe dietary supplement which might work alone or in conjunction with other treatments to promote health. They may also recommend high vitamin intake in order to normalise body functioning, growth and development.
