It is caused by the inflammation of the adipose tissues present in the walls of the colon. These adipose tissues are known as epiploic appendages. Twisting of these tissues leads to inflammatory or ischemic changes that cause a condition known as epiploic appendagitis.
Can affect people of all ages. It is more common in men in the age group of 40-50 years.

Symptoms

The main symptom is abdominal pain and the pain may not be constant. The pain becomes worse with coughing or stretching. The abdomen area tends to become tender.
Rare symptoms include nausea, vomiting, fever, diarrhea, and loss of appetite.

Treatment

Self-care: Eating a healthy diet and avoid having large meals, that is to avoid eating a lot of food in a single meal. A balanced lifestyle on food and workout and maintaining a healthy weight can prevent it on the first hand.

Medication: Over-the-counter medicines can reduce pain. Ibuprofen or acetaminophen might be prescribed. Antibiotics might also be prescribed if any kind of infection is examined.

Surgery: Depending on the underlying condition, gallbladder or appendix might have to be removed. Other intestinal surgery might also be recommended. Talk to a mfine health expert if you are experiencing intolerable abdomen pain.
