Angioneurotic edema is a hereditary disease. It is also as Quincke’s disease. The person lacks an inhibitor protein called C1 esterase inhibitor that prevents swelling of angioedema. It is established by C1 esterase inhibitor testing and checking levels of complement components, including C2 and C4.

Symptoms

The symptoms are mostly similar to that of angioedema.

Medically-diagnosable
People may experience
Swelling: With red rashes in localized area on or near the feet, hands, eyes, or lips
Pain areas: Abdomen, with cramps
Throat: Gets swollen
Breathing: Becomes difficult

Treatment

Self-care: Apply cool, wet compresses to soothe the skin and ease itching. Wear loose cotton clothes to prevent further irritation of the skin. Bath in comfortably cool water.

Medication: Antihistamines and nonsteroidals called leukotriene antagonists to prevent recurring attacks; purified human C1 esterase inhibitor, fresh frozen plasma, etc. are medications for regulating protein levels and relieving the symptoms.
