Neck Pain – What you need to know

A common condition causing pain or stiffness in the neck. Neck pain has become a common condition affecting several people worldwide. Mostly, the condition arises due to poor posture, hunching and excessive work on laptops and computers. It’s rarely serious and can often rectify itself soon.

- Often an acute problem

Symptoms

Pain in the neck which may worsen with exertion
Stiffness in the neck
Pain during movement of neck
Tightness in shoulders
Headaches

Treatment

Self-care:
Most times, maintaining a good posture at all times and avoiding hunching or slouching help in alleviating neck pain. In case you experience numbness or shooting pain in the arms, consult a doctor immediately.
Stretching exercises: Be sure to gently stretch your neck and do light exercises frequently in the day, especially when working on a laptop.
Sleeping posture: Choose a good pillow to give your neck the support it needs at night.
