Patellar Tendinitis is a common inflammation or injury of the tendon connecting the kneecap (Patella) to the shinbone (Tibia).

Patellar Tendinitis is a frequent injury amongst athletes, especially those who play basketball or volleyball. There, it is often referred to as Jumpers Knee.

Ages affected:
Patellar tendinitis of the left knee can affect individuals at all ages.

Symptoms:

- Pain at the base of the kneecap
- Tenderness in the kneecap
- Swelling and a burning sensation in the kneecap
- Pain while kneeling

Treatment

Self- Care:

- Take adequate rest
- Apply ice on the affected area
- Avoid activities that strain the patellar tendon
- Strengthen the thigh muscles
- Follow professional instructions to play a sport or exercising the right way

Medications:

Medications such as pain relieving tablets are prescribed to provide short-term relief from the pain associated with patellar tendonitis.
A variety of physical therapies are also recommended to reduce symptoms of patellar tendinitis. These include physical therapy exercises such as stretching and strengthening exercises. Orthopaedic devices like patellar tendon strap and Iontophoresis therapy can relieve symptoms of patellar tendinitis.
In case conservative treatments fail, corticosteroid injections, platelet plasma rich injections, needling procedure, or surgery is recommended.
