An Ovarian Cyst is a fluid-filled abnormal growth that develops inside or on the surface of the ovaries. An Ovarian Cyst Removal surgery is the removal of such cysts from the ovaries. The surgery can be performed in 2 ways, through a small incision (Laparoscopy) or through a larger incision (Laparotomy).
Most Ovarian Cysts are short-lived and disappear on their own without any medical treatment. However, there are chances that some cysts do not go away, grow larger over a period of time, and maybe cancerous. In this case, an Ovarian Cyst Removal Surgery is the required treatment.
There are 2 ways to perform an Ovarian Cyst Removal Surgery, including
Laparoscopy – this involves smaller incisions/cuts made into the abdomen.Laparotomy – this involves slightly larger incisions/cuts made into the abdomen.On the arrival at the hospital, the patient will be asked to change into a hospital gown. Before the surgery, the patient will be given a small dose of anesthesia. Once the patient is under sleep, an incision will be made below the navel. Then a medical instrument called a laparoscope is inserted into the abdomen to view and locate the cyst.
Once the cyst is found, the surgeon will remove the cyst and close the incision.
