Spine surgery is performed if there is constant pain in the back which normally originates from the nerves, bones, or joints in the spine. Damage to the mechanical and soft tissue can cause improper movement of the spinal joints resulting in intermittent or chronic pain.

Discuss any ongoing medications with the doctor. Fasting may be required, heavy meals should be avoided before the surgery. Smoking should be completely avoided at least 2 weeks prior to the surgery.

How Is Spine Surgery Performed?

An incision or cut is made in the middle of the back or neck. The skin and muscles around the incision are moved around for proper analysis. Part of the bones on the spine may need to be removed, including disk fragments. The incision is shut with stitches and covered with antiseptic and bandages for healing.
