Prostatitis is the swelling and inflammation of the prostate gland, which produces fluid that nourishes and transports sperm.

Self-care: Patients can soak in a warm bath, limit or avoid alcohol, caffeine, and spicy or acidic foods.

Medication: Antibiotics, alpha blockers to help relax the bladder neck and the muscle fibers where the prostate joins the bladder, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may be used.
