(3) Intra-Uterine Device (IUDs)

This delivers a combination of estrogen and progesterone. Hormones are released slowly and are absorbed directly via vaginal walls.
Advantages:
– Makes period regular and lighter
– Decreases menstrual cramps
– Very effective against pregnancy
Disadvantages:
– Offers no protection against STIs
– Condoms are still required for reducing the risk of STIs.
– Side effects include nausea, increased appetite, headaches
(5) Condoms
There are female as well as male condoms.
Male condom
This is a thin sheath that is placed over the erect penis.
Advantages:
– Reduces the risk of STIs
– Cost friendly
– This even provides the most protection against sexually transmitted infections
Disadvantages:
– Can’t be reused
– Easy to break
– Some females can be allergic to latex
Female condom:
This is a polyurethane sheath that prevents pregnancy by acting as a barrier.
Advantages:
– Provides protection against STIs
Disadvantages:
– Can move or behave uncomfortably
– Can be used only once
